From 1980–1987, Basquiat filled numerous notebooks with drawings and handwritten texts—from crowns, teepees, and hatch-marked hearts to poems touching on culture, race, and class—which are captured here, showcasing his working process and giving us all an inside look into the inner workings of his highly creative mind.
